Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a psychological framework outlining the progression of human motivation across five levels, depicted as a pyramid. At the base are physiological needs, including essentials such as food, water, and shelter. As these are fulfilled, individuals strive for safety and security, followed by social needs encompassing love and belonging. The fourth level is esteem, where individuals seek recognition and respect. Finally, at the peak is self-actualisation, a state where one realises their full potential and seeks personal growth and self-improvement. This model serves as a useful tool for understanding human behaviour and aspirations, highlighting the interconnectedness of various needs in shaping an individual’s overall well-being.
